Contract CR116 carries the Cross Island Line east through built-up ground, driven by 7.2-metre earth-pressure-balance machines on twin-bore running tunnels. Every launch begins the same way — the cutterhead craned down into the shaft and mated to the shield in the confined space of the launch chamber.
Our crew members worked the machine through its lifecycle: shaft assembly and launch, production mining under close face-pressure control, and the cutting-tool interventions that keep a drive on programme in Singapore's mixed ground.
