Two decades of TBM drives across Japan, Hong Kong, Indonesia and Singapore — now founding Bangladesh's next tunnelling company.
Kakita-san's career began on Japan's public works — service tunnels, sewer pipelines and water-supply tunnels — where he absorbed the meticulous planning and construction culture that defines Japanese engineering. Those early drives in Hiroshima, Niigata and Yamaguchi taught the fundamentals that no classroom can: ground behaviour, machine rhythm, and the discipline of doing small things perfectly, every ring.
From Japan his career expanded across Asia. He drove Herrenknecht machines on Hong Kong's Express Rail Link, helped deliver Jakarta's first metro on packages CP201 and CP202, and worked multiple contracts of Singapore's Thomson–East Coast Line on STEC and Kawasaki machines.
In 2023, he founded Zen Tunnel Engineering together with directors Jasim Uddin and Mohammad Zahirul Islam — colleagues from a dozen underground projects — to bring that combined experience to the Dhaka Metro's coming underground phase, and to tunnelling contracts worldwide.
